Each receipt is signed with an Ed25519 signature. Anyone can check that signature against the public key Riley publishes, so a receipt proves it came from Riley and has not been altered.

How it works
Each receipt is signed with an Ed25519 signature. Anyone can check that signature against the public key Riley publishes, so a receipt proves it came from Riley and has not been altered.
The signature covers a hash of the receipt's contents. Change a single character and the hash changes, the signature no longer matches, and the tampering is obvious.
Each receipt references the one before it. That chain means you cannot quietly drop in an edited receipt without breaking the link, so the whole history stays consistent.
